Located just outside Cique Terre Italy lies an excellent network of hiking trails connecting the villages of Roimaggiore, Maarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso Al Mare. We hiked it one way and then took the train back to our starting point. Due to frequent temporary trail closures it is important to visit the park website before you go. We went in late September of 2024 and one trail closure required taking a longer route resulting in a 13 mile hike shown below. If all trails are open, it is possible to travel the distance from Riomaggiore to Monterosso al Mare in 7 miles. While the towns along the trail are the highlights, the coastal views from the trail are spectacular. The trail sees a significant amount of traffic, especially near the towns along the way. Proper footwear (no open toe shoes) is not only needed but enforced by law. While it was demanding and sometime hot, it is a hike highly recommended for the unique experience and photographic opportunities.
